Apart from football and basketball, Catalan people also have a great interest to tennis. All around the city you can spot many tennis courts (mainly are clay ones based on the weather condition in Barcelona) attracting both amateur and professional players. No surprised to know that the city hosts one the of the most popular tennis tournaments in clay court- the annual Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.
This year will be the 59th edition of Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. It will take place from 16 to 24 of April. Talking about the tournament, definitely we have to mention about the Real Club de Tennis Barcelona, the oldest tennis club in Spain, which also the one hosts the tournament right from its first ever competition in 1953. Not only a famous sport event in Barcelona but also the tournament manages to become one of the most widely known and awaited social activities in the city.
For sure Rafael Nadal, the world number one player will be the lighting rod drawing attentions of both spectaculars and press. As a matter of fact, Rafael Nadal is already a part of Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell history as he’s the first player ever succeeded to win the tournament in 5 consecutive years! Forced to miss last year competition due to the injury, the Mallorca-born player expects to bring all his best and once again claim his nickname “the King of clay court” is true!
